Hi folks, I'm not really an old hippy but I probably aspire to be one. I live smack dab in the middle of Bonnie Scotland. I have never been to Israel/Palestine but I did cover the ME for a major insurer for 5 years some 25 years ago, an Israeli stamp on my passport or a second passport would have endangered my residency in Saudi.
On the Israeli Palestinian question I hold quite extreme pro Palestinian views. I acquiese to the two state solution only because that is what the Palestinians are prepared to do. To my mind that still leaves a quite odious apartheid state that offends my every essence in exactly the same way as Apartheid South Africa did. I advocate the dissolution of the Jewish state in favour of a state where every man and woman of any religion or none can reside with identical rights and responsibilities, this would be nuclear arms free state. I believe this can be achieved in exactly the same way as South Africa though I recognise the truth and reconciliation processes will require Bhudda-esque qualities from nearly everyone.
I acknowledge my nations culpability in the creation and maintenance of this conflict and I consider the UN part in it its only error". Israel is an infidel cuckoo in a Gentile nest and its existence as a Jewish state has been and will always be inevitably problematic. Not that I consider this conflct to be about religion, it is, like all conflicts, about real estate.
I am not an anti semite, I hold all religions in equal disdain, I will not refer to Jews when I mean Israeli or to Israeli when I mean Likud. Gerald Kaufman MP said it best in the UK Parliament:
