The
Israel-Palestine Forum promotes dialogue among progressives about the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Our vision is of a Middle East in which
the two sides live in peace and security. We look forward to the day
when there will be economic, cultural and political exchanges on a
broad scale. While the two peoples have caused each other much grief,
it is yet possible that they will enrich each other's lives.
In
the three decades I've been dedicated to Mideast peace, I've found
attitudes toward Israel among American Jews entirely too homogenous.
There's too much of the "united front" approach to Israel. We've left
too much to the "mandarins" in AIPAC and the Conference of Presidents
of Major Jewish Organizations allowing them to speak for us when it
comes to Israel. The problem with this is that the views of the
mandarins do not represent us. Poll after poll shows that their views
are to the right of the majority's and sometimes far to the right.
So
I view this site as an attempt to break the logjam of uniformity when
it comes to a debate about Israeli politics and the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict.
IP Forum contains a discussion forum where people can
present their ideas about the struggle for peace. It also contains a
newsfeed with coverage of the Middle East from the world media and a
blog feed containing blog writing about the Middle East. There
is a Links section for those who wish to learn more about organizations
working for peace in Israel, Palestine and the United States.
Finally, there is an Essays section devoted to major, timely articles
from the world media that cover a particular issue in depth. A
note about this section: articles featured here are for educational and
research purposes under the provisions of Fair Use. If a
copyright owner wishes us to remove an article from the site we will do
